Book of Remembrance for adults

The Book of Remembrance is the only permanent form of memorial we offer at Eastbourne Crematorium. It provides the opportunity to create a very personal commemoration using your own choice of words that can be viewed forever. The beautiful hand-written inscriptions can be two, five or eight lines long. There is the option to add a hand-painted emblem or badge next to the five- or eight-line inscriptions. Lines are inscribed in black ink, and the initial letter of the surname is illuminated in gold.

The volumes are displayed in closed glass-topped cabinets and are open at the appropriate date every day. Entries can be viewed without appointment on the anniversary date. The Book of Remembrance Room is open 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1pm on weekends and Bank Holidays. The Book is in eight volumes, two for each quarter and four pages are allocated to each day. Each book is sent off to be updated once a year, to be returned a week before it will be displayed. This means there may be quite a wait to see your entry in the book, depending on when you place the order with us. For example, the January/February/March book is sent off in October to be returned in December, so if you place an order for a January date in January, you will have a whole year until you can view the entry in the book. The cut-off dates for orders to be placed for each volume are as follows:

Inscriptions are usually entered to mark the anniversary of death, but you may choose any other date that is meaningful or significant for any reason. Please make your chosen date clear when placing your order. Each line can be a maximum of 32 characters; this includes letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation. All entries start with the surname, then the forenames, of the loved one you are memorialising.

Viewing the book online can give lots of different examples but feel free to use your creativity to uniquely memorialise your loved ones with a personlised dedication. 

In addition to an entry into the Book of Remembrance, there is also the option of ordering a Miniature Book or a Memorial Card. These are beautifully hand-drawn to the same high standard as entries into the main book and have the additional benefit of being portable and therefore can be stored at home with you. There is no requirement to purchase an entry into the main Book if you just wish to order a standalone Memorial Card or Miniature Book.
